HomeWise Youth Competition

The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements (DHS) will be developing a citizen engagement APP for government housing information. The APP will assist citizens to be “HomeWise” regarding the government housing assistance and services available to them in the Western Cape Province.

The information will particularly benefit the affordable housing/GAP market – with income groups between R3 501 and R22 000.

Competition Timeline

Entries open : 23 July 2019
Entries close : 30 August 2019 at 22h00
Winner to be announced : on or about 13 September 2019

How to Enter

** This Competition is for Youth (aged 16-35) to Design the User Experience/User Interface of the APP.

To enter the Competition, you need to submit:
** Your completed and signed entry form
** Mock-ups of your design ie. wireframes/layout/structure/framework for the HomeWise citizen engagement APP.

** Design must be provided for particular content categories as set out by Department of Human Settlements (Download link below).
** Mock-ups / wireframes can be hand-drawn or done using a PC or a specific programme.

** A description/narrative that introduces and walks us through your UX/UI design solution (not more than 1 000 words).
** Include at least 3 benefits of your design.

Note:
** You are NOT REQUIRED TO DESIGN THE ACTUAL APP or input/include all content. You are required to design how the APP will look and feel and how citizens will engage with the various information categories that are provided.

** Entries must be emailed to HS.Communications AT westerncape.gov.za before 30 August 2019 at 22h00.
** Entries received by any other means, such as faxes, hand deliveries, social media, email to other email addresses, etc will be disqualified.

Prizes

** The Winners will be awarded a high specification laptop and/or equipment to the value of R30 000. The Prize is not redeemable in cash.
** The Prize is subject to change without prior notice at any time. The Judges reserve the right to substitute the prize of equal or greater monetary value.

Scoring Criteria:
The maximum score assigned by a Judge for each Entry is :
** User Experience/User interface. App design is clear, easy to view and navigate various categories of information. Flow and/or navigation should feel intuitive rather than confusing. There should be no errors. (maximum score 20)

** Originality. Must be original. An excellent UX/IU APP design will be unique and unlike other APPS. (maximum score 10)
** Design. An excellent UX/IU APP design will be cohesive throughout, impactful and effectively contributes to the purpose of the APP. (maximum score 10)
