What is SPU Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship?

Sol Plaatje University’s Research Office calls for applications for exciting and dynamic post-doctoral research fellowships for 2024-2025. Post-doctoral fellows are supported as an integral part of SPU’s research endeavours and the development of the university’s research standing depends on attracting and increasing post-doctoral fellows hosted by SPU. Applications and supporting documentation must be sent to post.doctoral [AT] spu.ac.za with “Research Office Post-Doctoral Fellowship + Reference No” in the subject line no later than 25th March 2024.

Who Can Apply For SPU Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship?

** PhD degree in Physics or Chemistry or Materials Sciences.
** Experience in the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of luminescent nanomaterials.
** Evidence of publications in the ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) accredited journals.
** Open to all South African and Foreign nationals for full-time research at the Sol Plaatje University
** The candidate must have completed their doctoral studies within the past five years in the fields relevant to the position.
** Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
** Applicants who are selected for the fellowship must be able to relocate to the SPU for the full length of the award. This is a residential fellowship, which means that the recipient is obligated to spend at least 80% of their postdoctoral stay at SPU.
** The successful candidate is expected to contribute positively to the advancement of knowledge in the study of luminescent nanomaterials applied to solid state lighting, solar cells, photodynamic therapy, and gas sensing

Bursary Value:
The fellows will receive a flat rate, a tax-free bursary of R280 000 for one year (to cover living expenses) and R40 000 additional research expenses fund. Extension to a second year will be subject to performance.
