How To Apply For Undergraduate Admission in UJ?
Applying to the University of Johannesburg is a significant step in shaping your academic and professional future. Take note, UJ only allows applicants two application choices per academic year, and no changes are allowed once an application is submitted. Therefore, it is important to take time to review all details carefully—an informed decision is the foundation of success.
Steps:
Step-1:
Calculate your Admissions Point Score (APS) to assist you in verifying whether you meet the minimum admission requirements for the qualification(s) you intend to apply for.

Step-3:
** Take note of the important information below before you apply.
** Applicants can apply online for free.
** Applicants may only apply for two study choices per academic year. These study choices may not be amended once they have been chosen.
** Upgrading of final grade 12 results, if applicable, must be indicated as part of the online application.
** The University of Johannesburg will not accept the American General Education Development (GED) test for entry into its undergraduate curricular qualifications. Applicants who completed the American GED and would like to study towards an undergraduate curricular qualification at UJ must achieve a Grade 12 NSC (Including IEB & SACAI) or international equivalent.
** Applicants currently in Grade 12 OR busy Upgrading
** The University is aware that applicants currently in grade 12 or busy upgrading their grade 12 can improve their final marks, therefore using the APS calculator should be considered as a guideline as your final results might change.
** Applicants that have completed Grade 12 (not upgrading) AND that have no previous/current tertiary studies
** Applicants who completed grade 12 and are not upgrading must make sure they meet the minimum admission requirements – applicants that do not meeting the grade 12 minimum admissions requirements for the qualification applied for will not be selected.
** Applicants that have completed Grade 12 AND that do have current/previous tertiary studies
** Applicants who completed grade 12 and are currently (or previously) studying towards a tertiary qualification must still meet the grade 12 minimum admissions requirements as well as the faculty specific selection requirements – applicants that do not meet the grade 12 minimum admissions requirements for the qualification applied for will not be selected.
Extended Qualification:
Please note that extended qualifications are earmarked for applicants WITHOUT previous tertiary studies. If you did any form of tertiary studies and you apply towards an extended qualification, you will not be considered.
Articulation into a Diploma or Degree:
Please note that not all Short Learning Programmes (SLP), Continues Education Programmes (CEP), or Non-subsidised Programmes (NSP), gives access to a curricular diploma or degree.
Disclosure and Verification of Previous Studies:
It is compulsory for applicants from other institutions to indicate details of previous higher education studies undertaken either in the current year(s) or prior to this application. Applicants are required to declare previous studies on the University of Johannesburg system within 10 working days of submitting the application. In addition, an official academic record reflecting these prior studies must be uploaded as part of the declaration or sent by email as per the instructions below before the end of October on the current application cycle.
Studies must be declared:
** regardless of whether your application is in the same or in a different field of study;
** regardless of whether your studies were cancelled prior to completion; and
** should you wish to carry over any credits.

1. Log in and click on ‘Academic/Residence Applications’, then click on ‘Enter previous studies at another institution’ and capture the relevant details.
2. Click on ‘Upload of Documents Required’ and submit your academic record/transcript as part of this disclosure process OR you can email it to ujappdocs@listsrv.uj.ac.za using your reference/student number in the subject line of the email.
If deemed necessary, the University of Johannesburg will verify your previous results/qualification(s) to determine the authenticity of the results/qualification(s) awarded, and that the results/qualification(s) was issued in your name by said tertiary institution(s).
Step-4:
Complete your application. Note, Undergraduate applications are open from the 01st of April to the 31st of October and no late applications will be accepted.
