Building The Skills Base for Eastern Cape Bursary Programme :

Bursaries :
** The Eastern Cape Provincial government through various departments offers bursaries to young people wishing to study further in various fields. If you have been provisionally accepted for studies in one of the fields listed below, we would like to hear from you.

Objectives :
** To afford selected individuals the opportunity to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to cope with present and future duties
** To give opportunity to candidates who have potential.
** To develop skills in disadvantaged communities.
** To specifically address the shortage of skills needed to develop the province.

Selection Criteria :
** Academic results
** Financial need and commitment
** You must be an Eastern Cape citizen
** Willingness to plough back skills in needy areas in the Province

1 Financial Assistance From The Office Of The Premier :
1.1 Criteria :
** Financial need.
** Academic potential (The academic criteria ofthe institution will be used).
** Strategic fields of study.
** Resident in the province.
** Redress: Gender, disability.
** Focus on basic degree/diploma.
** Public Higher Education Institutions.
** Valid RSA ID document.

1.3 Application Process :
** Student applies for admition to an institution of his/her choice.
** Student is provided with Application forms for financial aid by the institution.
** Student applies and is informed by the Institution of status of application
** Institution will forward request for funding to NSFAS.
** OTP transfers funds to NSFAS to cover expenses.

1.4 What Will Be Paid For :
** Registration Fee
** Tuition Fee
** Books
** Accomodation
** Meals

1.5 Bursary Loan :
** Students will enter a loan agreement.
** Up to 40% of the financial support will be converted to a non-repayable bursary.
** This depends on the academic progress of the student.
** Academic progress will be monitored during year.

1.6 Management Of Loan :
** The office of the premier (otp) has entered into agreement with nsfas to administer the funds.
** OTP will provide the criteria for selection and support.
** Applications will be administered at the Financial Aid Bureau (FAB) at the Institution.
** The academic criteria of the institution will be used
