THEDTIC Foreign Office

Foreign Economic Representatives :
The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) designates Foreign Economic Representatives (FERs) to South African missions and embassies abroad. These FERs serve as the direct liaison between prospective foreign investors or potential importers and the Department´s Head Office in terms of facilitating and fostering export and investment promotion activities, and representing the dti as and when required.

the dti has FERs in the following regions :
** Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East Africa
** West Africa and Middle East
** Asia – East

** Asia – West
** Europe
** Americas – North and South
** International Trade and Economic Development (Permanent mission, Geneva)

About Us :
the dti´s strategic objectives are to :
1. Facilitate transformation of the economy to promote industrial development, investment, competitiveness and employment creation;

2. Build mutually beneficial regional and global relations to advance South Africa´s trade, industrial policy and economic development objectives;
3. Facilitate broad-based economic participation through targeted interventions to achieve more inclusive growth;

4. Create a fair regulatory environment that enables investment, trade and enterprise development in an equitable and socially responsible manner; and
5. Promote a professional, ethical, dynamic, competitive and customer-focused working environment that ensures effective and efficient service delivery.

Functions of THEDTIC

Some of the key functions of the DTI include

Promotion of industrial development:
The DTI is responsible for developing policies and programs that support the growth and development of the manufacturing and industrial sectors in South Africa. This includes providing financial support, technical assistance, and incentives for businesses to invest in and expand their operations.

Promotion of exports:
The DTI is responsible for promoting South African products and services in international markets and developing export markets for South African goods. This includes providing support and assistance to businesses in identifying export opportunities, participating in trade missions and exhibitions, and accessing export finance.

Promotion of small business development:
The DTI is responsible for promoting the development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in South Africa. This includes providing financial and non-financial support to SMEs, promoting access to markets and procurement opportunities, and providing training and skills development programs.
