Late Applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the 2023 academic year is opening on Tuesday 20 December 2022 and closing on Tuesday, 31 January 2023 at 00:01am
Only schools with available space are open for Late Applications. Parents will be able to apply online and immediately upload documents online. Documents not uploaded may be hand delivered to schools from 11 – 31 January 2023. Note that each parent may apply to ONE school only. The learner will be automatically placed at the one school applied to.

What are the Important Dates of Admission?
Important Dates of GDE Grade 1 & Grade 8 Admissions are,
1. 25 June 2020 – 25 July 2020 :
Apply to a maximum of 5 schools. Remember to use the Home option at least once to apply to schools with Feeder Zones that cover your home address
2. 25 June 2020 – 31 July 2020 :
Remember to submit documents to All the schools that you applied to in 7 days after applying. Documents can also be uploaded on the System to ONE school for the other schools to view.
3. 25 June 2020 – 25 July 2020 :
There are Decentralised Walk-in Centres where parents can be assisted to make applications from 08:00 to 16:00.
4. 25 June 2020 – 25 July 2020 :
Note that you can also use your cellphone to make an application. Please use a reliable cell phone number as the Department will send regular SMSes to the cell phone you used to Register and Apply.

Online Application for admission of learners to Public Ordinary Schools
** The information requested is confidential and is intended only for the purposes of Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications in the Gauteng Province
** Once information on the application form is completed and submitted, no changes can be made
** Documentation submitted and/or uploaded will be verified by the schools that the applicant applied to
** Submission of the Application does not guarantee placement of a learner at the schools applied to. However, the Department will ensure that all learners are placed in schools with space(s) available
** Any falsified or incorrect information/document/s provided may result in an application being rejected and/or disqualified
** The Gauteng Department of Education does not accept liability for any errors or omissions committed by applicants while completing the Online Application Form
** Applications made based on the option Home address within the Feeder Zone will be prioritised for placement at the school closest to the applicant’s home address as far as possible
** A School Feeder Zone covers a number of home and/or work addresses within a specific area(s) as demarcated by the school
** School Feeder Zones differ from school to school. Some residential addresses close to the school may not form part of the school’s Feeder Zone. Feeder Zones Maps of all schools are published in the Provincial Gazette number 339 Vol. 24 of 2018

1. I have registered my daughter online and have delayed to submit the required documents due to being hospitalised. I have been to Springs district many occasion without any success, I have also submitted documents hard copies to the school which I applied for. Up to this day my daughter has not been placed.
2. I have applied for my child in 2 schools around Alberton and was offered space in a school I did not apply to because of my personal reasons. I rejected the offer and yesterday, I received a SMS stating that if a child is not placed we must apply to schools with openings. How do I do that if the system is not even accepting my logins? I struggled connecting from last night website stating that the site cannot be reached. The system seems to be unfair. Somehow as I do not understand why the offer was made at a school I did not apply to and the status on the other two just says the application is in process. How do kids get placed? I need help as this is frustrating not knowing where the child should go beginning of the new year. Can we be assisted?
Error / Problem:
1. There must be another way to register my daughter who is going to grade 8 and my niece who is going to grade 5. The website is not opening. Can the department of education do something to help parents (or) Can we just go back to the old way of doing things cause that was working I dont understand why it has to change.
2. I would like to register my son for grade 8, however when I verify my details it does not give an option for South African citizen. It is already pre-populate for non-citizens.
3. This GDE website is not working, how do we get help? I have tried several times it is not working, I need to register my grade 7 son for grade 8. The government must do something.
4. I didn’t upload the documents which were needed in time for my grade 8 child so, yesterday I went to the district offices to find help they told me to log on to the system but it doesn’t allow me. What should I do?
