Robert B Lloyd Bursary :

** Awarded on the recommendation of the Head of Department of Music to a promising male student in the BMus degree course.

** If there is no eligible student in this category consideration will be given to a student registered for a Masters degree or higher in music.
** The amount for this bursary is approximately R10.000.00.

1st year BMus Bursary :
** Awarded to a student in the first year of their BMus studies.
** This bursary is worth approximately R20, 000.00.

Chamber Choir Music Bursary :
** Nominated by the Rhodes University Chamber Choir Conductor, this bursary is to be awarded to a second or third year, full-time student from any faculty, on condition that the nominee remains an active member of the Rhodes University Choir during the year of award.

Syd Kitchen Bursary :
** The recipient of this bursary must be studying the guitar (classical, contemporary, jazz or bass) and must be registered to study at Rhodes in the year of the award.
** The recipient must be a Postgraduate student OR, if no suitable candidate exists at Postgraduate level, then an undergraduate student can be considered.

** This bursary is worth approximately R8, 000.
** The prize will be paid, in cash, directly to the student and may be used for either tuition, academic or living expenses.
** The recipient must agree to be named publicly and profiled by the Festival through its marketing channels.
** The recipient is urged to participate in the National Arts Festival in either the year of, or the year following, the award.

** Their participation should be as a Fringe performer, Main performer or running a workshop/masterclass during the Festival.
** If the recipient registers on the Fringe as a performer in the year of or the year following the award, the Festival will waive their Fringe Registration fees for that year.

Betty Shuttleworth Bursary :
** Outstanding Piano Performance for advanced students.
** Award is made on the recommendation of the HoD.
** This award is worth approximately R800.

Raymond Pullen :
** Administered by the Research Office, this award is made on the recommendation of the Head of Department.
** This is only applicable for postgraduate (MMus) students, and may not be applied for.
** The amount for this bursary is around R40, 000.00 Applicant wishing to be considered, must submit evidence of other funding received.

Basil Le May Bursary : (Grahamstown Foundation)
** Available to school-leavers who will enter upon a first degree course majoring in English or the performing arts.
** This award is not administered by Rhodes Department of Music and Musicology.
** Applicants or parents of applicants must be members of the Grahamstown Foundation.
** The award is based on academic merit and financial need.
** Tenable at any South African university, college or Technikon.
** Applicants must be a citizen of, and resident in, South Africa.

How to Apply :
** Students need to submit a motivation for the scholarship for which they would like to apply.
** Scholarships and bursaries are awarded on the basis of merit and need.

The application letter should include :
a) the award(s) for which you are applying, and
b) a brief motivation for financial assistance.
c) Applications should be handed in to Denétha Peters or emailed to d.peters AT ru.ac.za before 25 November 2016.
