National Geographic Photo Competition
The National Geographic Photo Competition 2021 brought to you by Samsung Galaxy S21 is now open. Themed Find the epic in every day, the competition invites all South Africans to capture unique moments, experiences or aspects of daily life in the world around us, using your lens, from 7 March to 3 April 2021.

Visual storytelling is the heart of National Geographic. For the first time in South Africa, amateur photographers are invited to showcase their unique stories and perspectives through their lens.
Use your imagination, dig deep into what every day epic means to you and express this through photography. Step out with a new perspective and rediscover our breathtaking world. Capture the epic in your day through a single image and you could win.
Competition Theme
“Find the epic in every day”
What does epic mean to you? Whether it’s the joy of seeing the sun rise, taking a bike ride on a sand road, watching a loaf of bread rise in the oven, sharing a moment of connection in your family or giving your daily job everything you’ve got, epic is different to each person.
You may be inspired by someone else’s epic – watching a child take his / her first steps, the woman who feeds children at an orphanage or the elderly man who inspires others with his tales of life, these moments can all be captured if they speak to you.
No matter how big or small, epic is unique to each person. Show us how epic resonates with you, through your photographic shot.

How To Enter?
To enter, simply post your photo on Instagram, tagging @NatGeo_Africa and @SamsungMobileSA adding #ExploreWithNatGeo, #GalaxyS21 and #withGalaxy
Entries must meet the following criteria:
** Entrants must be over the age of 16
** Entrants may not be a professional photographer i.e., earn a living through photography
** Photos must be unedited except for colour grading (no CG techniques, super-imposing, etc.)
** Photos must speak to the theme of showcasing the “Epic” in something seemingly ordinary
** Entrants must be South African citizens or permanent residents in South Africa.
How It Works?
Every week, the top ten photos will be selected by the judging panel. At the end of the competition period, each week’s top ten, together with an additional ten wildcard entries will proceed to the next stage, making up the top fifty, from which the top ten finalists will be selected by a panel that includes award-winning photographer and National Geographic Explorer Gulshan Khan.
Competition Period
Entries are open from 00:01 on 7 March to 23:59 on 3 April.
Winners Announcement
The winner will be announced on Earth Day, 22 April 2021. A selection of the top ten photos, including the winning three, will be published in Sunday Times Lifestyle and on TimesLIVE.
