SACNASP Become a Registered Scientists
Join our Database of Registered Scientists.
Who Should Register?
All natural scientists working in the fields of practice covered by SACNASP should register with us. Scientists working in the health sciences, especially those doing clinical work should register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa instead.
Engineers and those with engineering qualifications should register with the Engineering Council of South Africa. Those qualified in and / or working in the veterinary industry should register with the Veterinary Council of South Africa.
Why Should I Register?
If you’re a practicing natural scientist in South Africa, registration ensures legal compliance. The Natural Scientific Professions Act (Act No. 27 of 2003) requires all practicing natural scientists to be registered in terms of Sections 18 (1) and 20(2)(a) of the Act. In addition registration provides your current or prospective employers / clients with a quality assurance of your capability.
How Do I Register?
Prospective registered Natural Scientists can apply for registration with SACNASP through our online portal. Please familiarise yourself with our requirements for registration as well as the documents and fees required during the application process before you commence.
You will be required to upload your documents all electronically and make a payment during the process.
Step 1 : If you’re already a registered scientist with us, or have applied for registration please login below using your registration number or application reference number and password.
Step 2 : If you don’t have a password, please click on “Forgot my Password” to create one.
Step 3 : If you’re not yet registered and would like to apply for registration, please first ensure that you familiarise yourself with all the relevant information. When you’re ready to begin, click here to apply for registration.
When will I receive feedback on my application?
** Once you apply for registration your application goes through a rigorous process of verification and evaluation.
** Once you have supplied SACNASP with all the required documents in a suitable and clearly legible form, the evaluation process takes approximately four to six months to complete.
** It is very important that you supply all the required documents correctly and in a clearly legible format as missing, incorrect or incomplete documents will delay the evaluation of your application.
1. I see my certificate has expired, how do I renew my registration?
Registration Certificates expire each year in March. All you need to do to renew your Registration and obtain an updated certificate is login to SACNASP Scientists Portal and make payment of any outstanding fees.
2. My registration has lapsed, what do I need to do to renew my registration?
If your Registration has been Canceled for non-payment, because you immigrated or because you voluntarily cancelled it, you are able to reinstate it. To do so, login to SACNASP Scientists Portal and click on “Reactivate Membership”.
Then make payment of the reinstatement fee required through PayFast and your membership will be immediately reactivated in the categories and fields of practice you were previously registered in.
3. How do I apply for an upgrade or registration in an additional field?
In order to apply for an upgrade, please login to the SACNASP Scientists Portal and click on the link to apply for an upgrade ore the one to apply for registration in an additional field of practice.
Please note these options will only be available if your account is fully paid up. If you’re owing SACNASP any money you’ll need to pay it through the online portal provided before making your application.
4. How long does the registration process take?
When an application along with payment is received through the online portal the Registrations office will do a check of all the documentation supplied. If there are any problems with the documentation the applicant will be notified accordingly and requested to login and correct the documentation.
Once the office is satisfied that all the required documentation was adequately supplied the processing of the registration application will begin. The process takes three to six months from this point to the point where the final outcome is communicated to the applicant.
It is important to be aware that no checking or processing will be done until payment is received for the application.
