Description

** Film crews are always required to obtain film permits when filming on public spaces such as streets, pavements, sidewalks, government-owned buildings and so on. These permits are issued by local councils in respective regions or areas where filming takes place.

** The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) recommends that filmmakers apply for permission at least 14 working days before filming is due to start. The GFC will also help identify suitable filming locations – generic or scenic.

Step 2 : Read the instructions carefully before you are applying.
Step 3 : Next, click on the “Apply” link at the end of the page.
Step 4 : Please complete all relevant fields in the Application Form.

Step 5 : Finally click on the “Submit” button to complete your application.

Regulations

In addition, please ensure that the following regulations are strictly adhered to
** Letter of permission must be available for inspection by relevant authorities at any time.

** Confirmation from a recognised insurance company that the required public liability as well as political unrest cover has been arranged must be produced upon demand by relevant authorities.

** All provisions of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 which came into effect on 1 August 2000, the Traffic By-laws and any other relevant legislation must be adhered to.

** All instructions issued by any relevant authority must be strictly obeyed.
** No inconvenience shall be caused to other road users or pedestrians outside the area of permission.

** You will be held responsible for the removal of rubbish, waste or any other material left by spectators of participants on the roadway or verge of public roads involved.

Location Filming Guidelines

The GFC has also issued guidelines to ensure that location filming in Gauteng is efficiently coordinated and to promote responsible location filming practices.

Public Film Permits :
The GFC does not issue permits, nor does the GFC have a Film Permit Unit. Permits are issued by the relevant city, provincial or national departments, agencies and authorities. Some government departments and agencies have asked for permit applications to be channelled through the GFC.

This helps us keep better track of what is happening in the province and assist in identifying and addressing bottlenecks as they arise. The GFC will point you towards the relevant department or agency when you require a film permit and will facilitate the submission of your application on your behalf at no cost.

For use of private locations permission must always be sourced from the owners or managing agents directly.
