Personalise Your Motor Vehicle Number Plate

You can apply to personalise your motor vehicle number plate with any combination of numeric or alpha characters of your choice [subject to the approval of the Member of the Executive Committee’s (MEC)], provided that the number is available and is not offensive.

Your chosen name/number may not exceed 7 characters [excluding the provincial mark] and must comply with the requirements of a normal number plate (e.g. it must display the logo of the province) and be displayed in the same manner as the normal number plate. The name/number you use will not be duplicated by someone else.

What You Should Do?

Go to your nearest registering authority and complete an application form that will be provided by them.

Documents Required

** a certified copy of your identity document
** a vehicle registration certificate

** Proof of postal and residential address e.g. utility account. If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.

** If you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming your postal and residential address

Temporary Driving Licence :
You can apply for a temporary driving licence if you have applied for the renewal of your expired licence or have lost your drivers licence. This licence is valid for only six months and can be issued at any driving licence testing centre (DLTC).

About Us :
Fikile Mbalula is the Minister of Transport in South Africa’s 6th democratic administration, appointed to this role by President Cyril Ramaphosa in May 2019. He has previously served as the Minister of Police and Minister of Sports and Recreation. Prior to this he served as Deputy Minister of Police. These are roles that he discharged with diligence.

Mr Mbalula is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of South Africa’s governing party of the African National Congress and continues to serve as its Head of Elections. He has served on this leadership structure for many years before being re-elected in December 2017.

He has distinguished himself as an astute political leader in the various roles he has played from student and youth politics to national leadership roles in the ANC.
