SASSA Covid-19 SRD Grant Debtor Status
You are regarded as a debtor if the Auditor General’s findings indicate that you have other sources of income and SASSA previously paid you when you didn’t qualify.
It is expected that the client should pay the money back as cited in section 10.1 of the Ministerial Directions which reads as follows
10(1) SASSA may recover all monies paid to any person in the event that such a person irregularly benefitted or was not entitled to benefit from the Social Relief of Distress Grant.
How to Check SRD Debtor Status?
** You will be notified via SMS that you owe SASSA and have to settle the debt
** The application status on the SRD website, WhatsApp and SRD ops system will indicate Debtor
** You cannot lodge an appeal for reconsideration if you were identified as a debtor.
How To Make Re-Payment?
How To Make Re-Payment If Your Covid-19 Srd Grant Is On ‘Debtor’ Status. Client is expected to pay the debt electronically, through one of the SASSA bank accounts. Use ID Number as a reference.

1. What is the meaning of Pending status?
The application is in progress, when verification is completed, the applicant will receive a SMS notification of the outcome. Only those with status Approved will receive the SMS notification with a website link to submit bank details or to select a bank for cash transfer if unbanked.
2. Can I use another person’s account if I do not have a bank account neither a cell Phone?
Where an applicant does not have a bank account, he/she must indicate from the drop down list the nearest bank through which they want to be paid. Money will therefore be paid into the applicant’s cellphone number.
Where an applicant does not have a bank account and does not have a cell phone registered in his/her name, the payment will be made through the post office.
3. Asylym Seekers Or Special Permit Holders Can Apply For Special Covid-19 Srd R350 Grant?
All applicants will be required to give SASSA consent to verify and share information with other entities for the purposes of processing and paying your grant.
