Doug Banks Renewable Energy Vision (DBREV), now accepting applications for the 2024/25 Scholarship. A South African national or permanent resident who is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives in the African continent can apply for this scholarship. Those wishing to apply to be considered for the next DBREV scholarship have until midnight on Friday 29 September 2023 to do so. No late applications will be accepted.

1. I’m not a South African Citizen and do not have SA Resident status – do I qualify?
Sorry, but we just cannot accommodate anyone who is not a South African Citizen and does not have SA Resident status.

2. I would like to study at a university outside of South Africa – do I qualify?
No. We are not equipped to manage relationships with foreign universities.

3. I’m already enrolled for a postgraduate degree – do I qualify?
You may. Please bear in mind that the focus of your current postgrad studies has to be in line with the goals of DBREV for us to consider funding you and you will need to meet all the application criteria. We do prefer to be able to discuss and influence the focus of a DBREV Scholar’s studies but eligible applicants who are already enrolled may be considered.

4. I only need funding for 1 year to complete my Masters – do I qualify?
You are eligible to apply, provided you meet the criteria as noted above.

5. I intend to do an Honours degree – do I qualify?
No, DBREV do not accept applications for an Honours degree.

6. I am intending to study towards a PhD – do I qualify?
No. We can only fund a scholar for 2 years and it is extremely rare that a PhD is completed within 2 years.

7. I intend studying towards a postgraduate degree part-time – do I qualify?
It depends. We prefer not to fund part-time students as there is a higher drop- out rate and part-time students tend to take longer than full-time students. If your employer is very supportive and intends giving you time off for studies, that can influence the decision
