The Doug Banks Renewable Vision Scholarship offers financial support towards a relevant Master’s degree commencing in 2026 at a South African university to South African citizens or permanent residents for studies to address Energy Poverty and Energy Access through implementation of accessible, affordable clean energy services. Eligibility of Doug Banks Renewable Energy Vision Scholarship
Applicants should have a background of either engineering, science, environment & geographical science, finance, economics, or development studies and be eligible to register at a South African university. 1. I am not a South African Citizen and do not have SA Resident status – do I qualify?
Sorry, DBREV can unfortunately not accommodate anyone who is not a South African Citizen and does not have SA Resident status.
2. I would like to study at a university outside of South Africa – do I qualify?
No, DBREV is not equipped to manage relationships with foreign universities.
3. I am already enrolled for a postgraduate degree – do I qualify?
You may apply provided that your studies align with the objectives of DBREV.
4. I only need funding for 1 year to complete my Master’s degree – do I qualify?
You may apply, provided you meet the criteria as noted above.
5. I intend studying towards a Master’s degree part-time – do I qualify?
DBREV prefers not to fund part-time students as their studies tend to take longer than full-time students. If your employer is supportive and intends giving you time off for studies, that would be considered in a positive light. You may apply provided you meet the criteria as noted above.
6.I intend to do an Honours degree, or a PhD – do I qualify?
No, DBREV is aimed at supporting study towards a Master’s degree.
7.Is there an age limit?
No, however DBREV prefers to support younger students who are in the formative stage of their careers.
