What is The Negotiation Challenge (TNC)?

The Negotiation Challenge is an international negotiation competition for students, who share a passion for negotiation and demonstrate sufficient background and experience to compete on the highest level. To register for The Negotiation Challenge 2025 please form a team of max. 3 students, complete the registration form below, and transfer the registration fee. All registered teams will participate in the online qualification rounds and the best 10 teams will advance to the finals. The registration of multiple teams per university is allowed. Registration deadline is February 1, 2025.

Eligibility of The Negotiation Challenge (TNC)

Students (part-time, full-time, master, MBA, executive MBA, or PhD/JD) may attend The Negotiation Challenge. Exceptionally, undergraduate students who can demonstrate serious interest in negotiation will also be considered.

How much does it cost to attend?
** To cover the cost of organizing the competition and to finance the involvement of high-caliber judges, TNC collects a non-refundable registration fee of 400 Euro, early bird registration fee of 350 Euro is available until November 30. A last minute registration fee of 450 Euro applies between December 1 and February 1.
** During the face-to-face part of the competition coffee, and lunches will be provided for free to all participants
** Generally, we help the participants find affordable accommodation for their stay during the competition. However, the accommodation and travel expenses must be covered by participants or their sending universities.

When do I need to arrive?
The first negotiation rounds will be conducted online prior to the final event. The best teams from the qualification rounds will be invited to the final event, during which the teams will negotiate face-to-face. If you are among the invited participants and receive an invitation to participate in the final round, we advise that you arrive at least a day before the competition.

What kind of visa do I need and how can I get it?
Each student is responsible for obtaining his own visa. We can provide with you an official confirmation of participation, if needed for your visa application. Please inquire if you need a visa to travel to the finals in advance and apply for it immediately after the finalists have been announced.

How many negotiation rounds take place in TNC?
All registered teams participate in three online qualification rounds. The best 10 teams from the qualification rounds will participate in the finals and negotiate face-to-face in 2-3 additional negotiation rounds.

How will the winner be selected?
** Typically, The Negotiation Challenge consists of 3 qualification rounds. The qualification rounds are typically conducted remotely (on the phone, per email, chat, Zoom, Teams, Skype, etc.).
** The scoring mechanism and the communication mode for each round is announced during the briefing before the round. The participants need to demonstrate the whole spectrum of their negotiation skills in various types of negotiations based on a diversified set of simulations.
** The best teams from the qualification rounds will advance to the final event. The finalists typically negotiate 2-3 additional face-to-face rounds. During some of the rounds, the teams will be evaluated by negotiation experts.
** The team with the highest number of points after all rounds will become Negotiation World Champions.
** In exceptional cases, the organizers might change the number of rounds and conduct the whole competition online.

Is overnight accommodation available?
No travel is necessary during the qualification rounds. We will help the finalists find suitable accommodation during the final event. The travel and accommodation costs will have to be covered by the participants or their sending institutions.
