What is Capitec External Quantitative Skills Bursary?

Capitec External Quantitative Skills Bursary is for the 2027 academic year. It is only for quantitative-major qualifications (Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Quantitative Finance, etc). All students registered for full-time studies at any DHET/CHE registered tertiary Institution (university, college, Private Colleges, etc), in 2026 can apply. Applications are currently open. Closing date is Wednesday, 12th August 2026.

Eligibility of Capitec External Quantitative Skills Bursary

The bursary programme will be aimed at candidates who meet the following criteria:
1. South African Citizen
2. Aged 28 or younger on 31 December 2026.
3. This bursary also allows applicants that are 2026 matric students; or on a gap-year after matric in 2025.
4. All students registered for full-time studies at any DHET/CHE registered tertiary Institution (university, college, Private Colleges, etc), in 2026.
5. For the following NQF-7 (or higher) qualifications: Bachelors Degree/Honours

This opportunity is NOT open to:
** These qualification levels: N4/5/6, Higher Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Masters or Doctoral students.
** Students at these institution types: TVETs, Community Colleges, Graduate/Business School, or Distance-learning Student (UNISA, etc)

Academic performance:
** Grade 12: Bachelor’s Pass with a minimum average of 65% (or above)
** Tertiary level: Academic performance-average of 65% (or above) for the latest full academic-years (2025 and 2026 so far).

Only students registered in their first, second, or third (final) year of study, with a major in one of the following fields, are eligible:
** Mathematics- Mathematics Applied Mathematics, Pure or Applied, Mathematics, Mathematical Sciences, or highly-related
** Statistics- Statistics, Statistical Sciences , Mathematical Statistics, or highly-related
** Actuarial Sciences- Actuarial Science, Statistics and Actuarial, Science, Mathematical Statistics
** Combined Fields: Computer Science, Data Science, Quantitative Finance/Management, Econometrics, etc
