What is Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) Bursary?

The Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) is inviting an application for Bursary for year 2026. The Old Mutual Education Trust has since supported the academic journeys of over 550 graduates through financial assistance and holistic student support. The OMET bursary provides R77 000 per student. Last date of application is 31st August 2026.

Eligibility of Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) Bursary

To qualify for the OMET bursary, you must meet all the following criteria:

** Be a paid-up member of one of the ten participating unions
** Be a full-time and permanent employee of one of our participating unions
** Be the spouse (as legally defined) or child dependant (under 25) of a member or employee. See our FAQ section below to find out more.
** Intend to study at a public university in South Africa
** Be pursuing your first undergraduate qualification (a diploma or bachelor’s degree).

Paid-up: Membership fee payments are up to date.

The OMET bursary provides R77 000 per student, per academic year (as partial funding) alongside a range of support services:

** Vacation work opportunities for Final-Year Students

How To Apply For Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) Bursary?

For Current Scholarship Beneficiaries: Your account has been created for you by an OMET Administrator. In order to access your account, you must reset your password. Select this “Forgot your password?” link. You will be prompted to input your email address to reset your password.

Important: You must use your same email address that you received the signup instructions!!! Once you input your email address you will receive an email with a link to change your password. Input your new password, and follow the prompt to login. You will select your application in the “Reports Due” stage. Then select “Open” to begin submitting reports.

OMET awards 60 scholarships each year. Final selection is based on academic performance and is conducted by a committee of four senior officials from different South African higher education institutions.

The selection process will take place from 7-9 October 2026. Final approval is granted by The Old Mutual Education Trust Board in November 2026, and successful applicants will be notified shortly thereafter.

Academic Transcripts:
** Grade 12 learners: June matric report and Grade 11 year-end report
** Post-matriculants not studying: Official matric certificate

Current university students:
** Mid-year and year-end academic transcripts (from the previous academic year)
** OR matric results if currently in your first year

All transcripts and reports must be official and clearly visible (not cropped or cut off). Approved applicants will be required to submit additional documentation as proof of dependency (e.g., an unabridged birth certificate, marriage certificate, proof of financial support or relevant medical or legal documents)
