Step 1 : Click I accept the conditions button to view the eRegister web page

Step 2 : Click the Find button (or press Alt+F) to process your enquiry

What is SANC Number?

SANC Number :
** Each nurse is uniquely identified on the eRegister by means of his or her South African Nursing Council (SANC) Number.
** This number consists of eight digits and always starts with a “1”.

** The SANC Number is quoted as the reference number in all correspondence from the Nursing Council and is also used as an account number for financial transactions.
** The SANC Number is the ONLY way that all practitioners can be positively identified in the eRegister.

SA Identity Number :
** The eRegister contains the SA Identity Number of over 95% of practitioners – those who have provided certified copies of their identity documents to the Nursing Council.

** Unfortunately, some foreign nurses do not have SA identity documents while some other nurses still have to submit the relevant copies.
** So this information is NOT complete.

** If you fail to trace a practitioner using an SA Identity Number, please try to establish his or her SANC Number.
** Each practitioner should be able to provide you with this number.

FAQ On eRegister

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) On eRegister

Why can’t I search the eRegister by name?
The register of nurses and midwives has a very high incidence of duplicate names. Particularly in cases where there is only one given name there can be many duplicate entries. It is therefore impossible to always get a positive match based on names alone.

Why does the practitioner’s ID number sometimes not display on the eRegister?
The practitioner’s South African Identity Number will ONLY be displayed if you requested the record using the ID number.

To protect the person’s personal information, the practitioner’s ID number will not be displayed if you do not have access to it already.

Introduction :
** eRegister is published in terms of section 35 of the Nursing Act, 2005 as a COPY of the active records in the official register of South African Nursing Council .

** It is primarily intended for use by employers or prospective employers who need to verify the registration status of an employee or prospective employee. Practitioners may also use eRegister to confirm their own registration status.

What Do I Need To Use eRegister?
** eRegister is a free to use application available to any Internet user.
** You will obviously need a computer (or other device) with a connection to the Internet.
** Your computer/device must have a suitable web browser program such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, etc.

** Most computers/devices that meet these requirements should be able to access eRegister without further adjustment.

** It is also recommended (but not essential at this time) that your browser should allow the storing of cookies on your computer.

Using eRegister :
** eRegister has been designed to be as simple to use as possible.
** If you read the instructions on each screen, and follow them, you should not have any difficulty.

** Take a moment to read through the Help page before getting started as it contains additional information to assist you.
** Please read all notes boxes carefully – they contain important information about the information displayed using eRegister.

If You Have Problems Using eRegister :
** Please remember that your own PC and its software can be the cause of problems with this application.

** If you do have problems, please try to see if you get the same results on another computer OR at a later time.

** If you still have any difficulty using eRegister, please take careful note of any error message shown.

** If the error message does not help, take a moment or two to read the Help page and also the Frequently Asked Questions to see if you can solve the problem. If you still have problems, please call the Call Centre on 012 420-1000 or email registrar AT sanc.co.za

It is important that you supply the following information when reporting a problem :
** Computer Operating System (e.g. Windows 7 Professional)
** Browser name and version (e.g. Internet Explorer 9.0)
** Full description of the problem

Conditions of Use :
** Internet users are free to make use of the eRegister and by clicking on the “I Accept the Conditions of Use” button above, agree to the following Conditions of Use.

** The sole purpose of the eRegister is to enable Internet users to quickly verify the registration status of nursing and midwifery practitioners in South Africa.

** For this reason, RECENT additions and removals may not be reflected until the next update takes place.
** The date on which the information was extracted from the official register is shown in the heading of details pages.

These documents are the following :
** a South African Nursing Council certificate of registration (which is valid for one year from the date of registration);
** a South African Nursing Council annual practising certificate (APC); OR

** a certified copy under the hand of the Registrar of the entry of the person’s name in the register.
** Full details of persons removed from the register are always retained in the Nursing Council’s official register.

** However, the eRegister ONLY contains details of those persons currently registered.
** The absence of a persons name from the eRegister means that he/she has either been removed from the register or never been registered at all.

** If necessary, users of the eRegister may confirm the reason why the person has been removed from the register by calling the Help Desk on (012) 420-1000 during office hours or by email sent to registrar AT sanc.co.za

Some Important Information From Comments

Comments:
1. I registered and paid already to add Qualifications for nursing administration, community nursing and nursing education. I didn’t receive my SANC registration certificates, I checked on eRegister, only registered for nursing administration.

2. I have registered on 18th September 1979. Category is General Nurse and Midwife. Would it be possible to obtain a certified copy of this certificate? Where could I request a copy of the curriculum of this integrated course?

3. I have paid for a registration for additional qualification after completed nursing education and health service management with UNISA, I haven’t heard a response from SANC. When trying to check with eRegister, my name doesn’t appear. It states that it doesn’t match.

4. Why is SANC not available in all provinces? We struggle and the solution is often far away. We also hold for a long time when trying to make a call. In conclusion, I think the electronic system that deals with payments of annual license fees needs to be upgraded. The system missed to notice my split payment and until to date my license is not uploaded.

5. I registered in December and paid the amount of R340 for the Enrolled Nurse. I again deposited the amount of R30 in January . The reason why my registration was separated is because I do not get the reminders from SANC for almost two years. I have to ask from people the amount for registration. Now I found that my name is removed from roll. Can you please reinstate my name?

Information:
Most of the commenters commented that, they paid for SANC Registration but not received the Certificate.
