Research Assistant :
** The HIV Pathogenesis Programme (HPP) has two Research Assistant positions available.
** The incumbent will be required to be highly motivated, meticulous and hardworking and be able to work independently.

** The incumbent will report to the Laboratory Manager.
Minimum Requirements :
** BSc (Honors) degree or equivalent
** Familiarity with biomedical research laboratory procedures and safety requirements
** Minimum one year experience in a biomedical research laboratory
** Experience working with human samples
** Experience in flow cytometry
** Tissue culture experience
** HPCSA registered
** Assist senior researcher and his team with experiments, quality control and data verification
** Ordering of reagents and inventory keeping
** Undertake general sample processing of HIV positive blood samples
** Freezing and cataloguing of cells
** Participate in the various academic activities – journal club, training programme, virtual seminars, joint seminars and lab meetings.
** Develop specific laboratory experiments and analytical tools
** General laboratory housekeeping

Terms of appointment and Selection Process :
** The post will commence in March / April 2017 and will be offered on a one-year, fixed term contract.

** The position is potentially renewable, depending on availability of funds.
** The monthly cost of employment for this position will be R14, 000 – R16, 000, dependent on the experience of the successful candidate.
