Individuals are invited to submit applications in response to the following position :
** The South African Medical Research Council’s (SAMRC) Centre for Tuberculosis Research (CTR) seeks to appoint a dynamic and established researcher as a Specialist Scientist.
** The position will be based at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Parow North, Cape Town.

** The successful incumbent will assist with the scientific leadership of the CTR, take part in and lead research that will result in the production of multiple, internationally recognised scientific outputs, supervise post graduate students and generate income.

** The CTR is an intramural SAMRC Centre partnered with Stellenbosch University and is focused on tuberculosis research, with an emphasis on the South African situation.

** The CTR aims to improve the health status and quality of life of the population through the generation of new knowledge and apply that to health oriented research aimed at reducing incidence and prevalence by diagnosing and treating appropriately and by measures aimed at prevention.

Key responsibilities :
** Develop, lead and manage new research directions with particular emphasis on** translational and innovation in the field of Tuberculosis
** Publish in internationally peer reviewed scientific journals
** Present research findings at national and international conferences
** Comply with all regulatory ethical requirements of the SAMRC, Stellenbosch University and the National Department of Health

Core Requirements :
** PhD degree in Microbiology or Molecular Biology (preferably in Mycobacteriology) is required
** A track record in undertaking and initiating original research in the field of Tuberculosis and in publishing in accredited journals
** Experience in the mentorship of post-graduate students (Level BSc Hons, MSc and PhD)
** Successful grant application record.

Desired Attributes :
** Experience in team and co-operative research, and building national and international collaborations.
** Experience in working under BL-3 conditions
** Professional communication and interpersonal skills
** NRF rating, alternatively qualify for NRF rating.

Commencement of duty :
** There is an urgent need to appoint a qualified candidate to commence duty as soon as possible.

Remuneration :
** A competitive cost to company package in the region of ZAR 691 000.00 per annum will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.
