About the job :
** The CSIR has a vacancy for a Security Specilaist in the Integrative Systems group within the Defence Peace Safety and Security unit.

** The incumbents will research large security problems that span multiple stakeholders and facilitate co-design solutions with stakeholders that reduce security risk and create opportunities. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities :
** Structure, frame, define and research security problems in the area of security at a strategic level from environmental, social and other perspectives;
** Integrate knowledge across multiple disciplines and organisations required to understand and solve these problems;

** Facilitate work sessions with stakeholders to create common understanding across multiple stakeholders that have different interests and facilitate co-develop interventions;
** Identify bottlenecks to implementation of interventions and working with stakeholders to removing these;

** Build relationships with stakeholders;
** Lead a technical project team, with stakeholders from government, academics, private sector and communities;

** Apply a variety of methods (Mapping out stakeholders involved in a problem, interpreting relationships between strategic drivers, their dynamics and impact on the security problem, and transformation of organisational narrative);
** Develop and present research reports and strategies.

Qualifications, skills and experience :
** A Master’s degree in security studies and must have a Bachelor’s degree in political science; or
** A Master’s degree in political science/international relations with a thesis topic relevant to security;

** A minimum of ten years’ experience in multidisciplinary security problems or strategic security problems;
** Knowledge of researching security problems;
** Methods and concepts for addressing security problems;
** Understanding of security threats, drivers and the regional security context;
** Strategic, systemic and complexity thinking.
