The proxy and the representative can be the same person. The proxy and the representative must also present the appropriate identification documents :
** An RSA identity document issued by the Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) if the person is an RSA citizen, or a non-RSA citizen who permanently resides in the RSA.
** A temporary identity certificate issued by the DoHA if the person is an RSA citizen, or a non-RSA citizen who resides permanently in the RSA.

** An RSA passport from which the ID number can be obtained.
** An identity document issued by a foreign country, if the person is a non-RSA citizen who does not reside permanently in the RSA.

** A TRN certificate issued by the appropriate registering authority (RA) if the person is a non-RSA citizen who does not reside permanently in the RSA, and who does not have a foreign identity document, but who has a passport or travel document

** A traffic register number is the main identification number accepted for road traffic transactions on the eNaTIS for foreigners and organisations that serves as a non-legal person.

What You Should Do?

** Go to the nearest registering authority (RA) or driving licence testing centre (DLTC) and complete the form Application and notice in respect of traffic register number (ANR).

If you are applying for a traffic register number as a foreigner who wants to buy or register a motor vehicle in South Africa, you must submit the following:
** A certified copy of your passport or a certified copy of your driver license and temporary residence permit or travel document
** Two black-and-white ID photographs (confirm with the RA or DLTC how many photos is required).

** Proof of address e.g. utility account. If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.
** If you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming your postal and residential address

If you are applying for a traffic register number because you want to personalise the number plate of a vehicle owned by your organisation, you must submit the following:
** the business registration certificate (issued by the registrar of companies)
** a copy of the proxy or representative’s South African ID.
** Pay the prescribed fee.

What is Traffic Register Number?

A Traffic Register Number (TRN) is a unique identifying number that is assigned to a person’s driving license in South Africa. The TRN is used by the South African government to keep track of a person’s driving history, including their license status, any demerit points, and any driving offenses or convictions.

The TRN is also used as a reference number when paying traffic fines, renewing a driver’s license, or applying for a professional driving permit. In addition, the TRN is used to link a person’s driving license to their identity number, which is a unique number assigned to every South African citizen or resident

Additional Generic Procedure

Here are the steps on how to apply for a South African Traffic Register Number (TRN):
1. Go to the nearest registering authority (RA) and complete the form Application and notice in respect of traffic register number (ANR).

2. You will need to provide the following information:
** Your name and surname
** Your ID number or passport number
** Your residential address
** Your contact details
** The type of vehicle you are registering
** The make and model of the vehicle
** The vehicle identification number (VIN)

3. Pay the application fee. The application fee for a TRN is ZAR 150.
4. Submit your application to the RA. The RA will process your application and issue you with a TRN. The processing time for a TRN is typically 2 weeks.

    What makes up a TRN nr? yes it is 13 digits but does it have some “formula” to the nr of digits and letters? from a mixed dataset how can i identify if a nr is a TRN or not?

    I applied for Traffic Register Number Certificate in 2007. My Traffic register Number is 4046155W80008. Is my number still valid? Can I use the same number to buy a car in South Africa?
