How To Apply For UFS Undergraduate Admission?

** 2024 Undergraduate Applications Are Open
** Each prospective student must complete the online application.
** Once your online application has been submitted and processed, you will receive a student number (Reference number).

** Receiving a student number (Reference number) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of the Free State yet.
** In the case of applicants re-writing Grade 12 subjects, applications will be processed on the current results available. If Grade 12 has been written more than once then your combined results must be submitted with your application.
** Applicants writing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) through IEB or SACAI examining bodies can apply online by selecting “National Senior Certificate” under the Results Detail page of the online application process.
** Applicants writing the Cambridge International Examination can apply online by selecting “Cambridge” under the Results Details page of the online application process
** Applicants currently in Grade 12 are requested to provide school stamped copies of final Grade 11 and or grade 12 June report.
** Applicants transferring from another university/tertiary institution are required to declare their previous studies when applying as well as upload an official full academic record/transcript with the certificate of conduct and degree/diploma certificate (where applicable).
** The University of the Free State does not accept the General Education Development (GED) test for entry into any of its curricular undergraduate qualifications. The GED is no longer recognised by Universities South Africa (USAf), and is not equivalent to a South African grade 12 (NSC/IEB/SACAI).
** Applicants who completed the GED and would like to study towards an undergraduate curricular qualification are advised to register and complete a grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI or international equivalent thereof.
** Applicants who did not complete /NSC/IEB must have USAF accreditation from the examination board for South African Universities.

Important Information For All Students

Limited Space:
Keep in mind that all programmes have limited space available; therefore, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. When we process your application for admission, we capture your details onto the UFS databases – if your details are not available, or if you have omitted it on your application form, you will not be admitted or be able to register.

For this reason, it is very important to complete the application form in full and to stick to the closin dates. Meeting the minimum admission requirements for your chosen/intended programme of study does not guarantee admission, as limited space is available in each programme.

National Senior Certificate:
If you already have a National Senior Certificate (NSC), you must include a copy with your application form.

Application:
Make sure that you complete the application properly and attach all the required documents. An incomplete application, as well as outstanding documents, will delay your application process. Make sure that you complete the application form thoroughly, e.g. your personal details, school performance levels, the correct name of the school you are currently attending or have attended if you have already matriculated. If you need on-campus residence accommodation and/or financial aid, indicate this in the relevant section.

Transferring Students:
If you transfer from another tertiary institution, you must include a certificate of conduct and an official study record from the previous tertiary institution with your application AND submit copies when you register.

International Students:
If you are from another country, you must attach your certified school-leaving certificate, diplomas, and proof of a conditional exemption certificate issued by the Matriculation Board, to your application. Apply to mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption
