How To Apply For Admission at Stellenbosch University?

Welcome to Stellenbosch University’s online application platform. You’ve taken the first step in applying to Stellenbosch University for 2026. Here are the important application deadlines you should take note of: Applications for all undergraduate programs and residences are open from 1 April and close on 31 July. Please read the instructions on “How to apply” for more information on undergraduate closing dates. Or visit our website for prospective students at www.maties. com

Postgraduate applications for the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses are also open from 1 April. Closing dates for postgraduate programmes offered on the Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses are published on the prospective postgraduate student www.sun.ac.za/pgstudies. Applications for the Stellenbosch Business School programmes will open on 1 April. Please visit the website at https://www.stellenboschbusiness.ac.za for the closing dates.

Meet The Admission & Selection Criteria:
Before you apply you must make sure that you:
** meet the most basic academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree; and
** meet the minimum requirements and selection criteria for the programme(s) you apply to.
** Please visit the admission and selection requirements on our website for more information regarding our academic requirements when applying.
** We receive thousands of applications every year, but our space is limited. Even if you meet all the admission requirements we may not be able to accommodate you

What are the minimum academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree?
Before you consider applying for University, you must have:
** an UMALUSI certified NSC or IEB qualification;
** 30% for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans); and
** an achievement rating of 4 (50–59%) in four 20-credit subjects

How do you calculate your national senior certificate average?
Take your highest score in your Language of Learning and Teaching (Eng or Afr) and add the best 5 results of your 20-credit subjects (excluding Life Orientation, advanced subjects, additional exams, and any other non-UMALUSI accredited subjects) and divide the total by 6.

Apply Online :
** Create a profile, complete your information, upload the required documents and submit your application by 31 July.
** You may apply to be considered for up to three programmes from any faculty.
** You will be considered for all three of those programmes, and if you qualify, you may receive multiple offers. You must accept one of the offers by the closing date indicated in the offer letter.
** If two of the programmes you have selected have extensive selection processes, we recommend that you choose a third programme that does not have extensive selection processes to improve your chances of receiving an offer.

How can I change my programme selection after i have submitted my application?
You need to send an e-mail to our Client Services at info@sun.ac.za. But keep an eye on those closing dates. Once applications are closed, the specific faculty will decide whether they could accommodate your request based on the number of places available. Please remember to include your Application ID in all enquiries that you send to the University

Track Your SUN Application Status

We will send you an e-mail each time your application status is updated. You can also track your status online. Remember that we can only consider your application once we have received and reviewed all your information and application documents. To track your application status and to ensure there is no outstanding information, use your username (e-mail address) or Application ID and your password to log in to the Applicant Portal.
