How To Apply For Postgraduate Students Registration in UP?

As a postgraduate student at the University of Pretoria, you need to complete the registration process before your honour’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate starts . This is a very important step to ensure you have access to annual academic course material, the UP student portal and other essential information. Remember to read your faculty yearbook as well during the registration process, as it contains more specific faculty rules and regulations.

Steps:
1. Log into your UP Student Portal to ACCEPT OR REJECT your admission offer.

2. Pay your initial fee of R13 500.00. If you have been placed in a UP residence, pay an additional further R5 700 as soon as possible.

3. Complete Your Studentcontract on the UP Student Portal if you haven’t already. Click on the Admissions tile, print the contract, sign it, and mail or courier it to Private Bag X20, Hatfield, 0028. You can also deliver it to the Student Service Centre, Hatfield Campus (c/o Lynnwood and Roper Roads). You will not be able to register if you haven’t submitted your contract. If you have completed your contract and it has been verified, you will not have a contract hold when you click on the Tasks tile, and can continue to registration.

4. Now you can REGISTER! If you do not have any holds when you click on the Tasks tile on your Student Portal.

5. Doctoral and Masters students can register online from 15 December 2025.Honours and PGDip students can register online from 5 January 2026. Secure your space – register before 31st January 2026

6. Student Cards:
** Doctoral and Masters students please collect your student card at the Student Service Centre of your campus.
** Honours and PGDip students please collect your student card at the Student Service Centre at Hillcrest campus

UP Postgraduate Students Fees and Funding

All Postgraduate Students:
** Fees for the next study year are normally available as from December. Quotations will be available (before the new fees are known) with the current year’s fees.

** There is no distinction in tuition fees between part-time and full-time studies.
** The initial fee is a minimum fee payable in order to register. After registration it is reversed and the true cost for the year is charged. The initial fee is not an additional amount, not the true cost for the year, but only an up-front payment (deposit) payable at registration. It is payable every year of registration, before registration is possible.

Research Masters And Doctorates:
Registrations for research Masters and Doctorates will be levied an annual tuition fee, subject to a possible annual increase and will be payable for each year of registration.

Honours and Masters By Coursework:
Registrations for Honours and Masters by coursework degrees will be levied as per the tables per faculty, provided that the student completes the degree in the prescribed period.
