How to Apply at UKZN?

** Online application should only be used by postgraduate and international applicants as well as returning former UKZN undergraduate applicants.
** First time entering South African undergraduate applicants should apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

UKZN Acceptance Letter

** All South African applicants for first time study at UKZN must apply via CAO.
** Consult .cao.ac.za to download a CAO application form or to apply online.
** Consult appications.ukzn.ac.za for information on application procedures, programmes offered, closing dates and entrance requirements and to access UKZN Undergraduate Prospectus.

To apply online, please ensure that you :
** Complete the application form accurately and fully.
** Write your names the same as they appear in your identity/passport document.
** Specify the name of the degree/diploma and campus

** Specify your major/area of specialization.
** Use the correct reference number when making payment for the non-refundable application fee.
** Complete the residence section, if applicable.
** Read and understand the medical insurance requirements (if you are an international applicant).

Closing Dates of UKZN Application

Closing dates for South African citizens :
** Semester 1 (January intake)
Medicine: 30 June : No late applications are accepted.
All other programmes: 30 September.

Semester 2: (August intake)
** Apply directly to UKZN.
** Applications close on the 30 April.
** Application fee payable to UKZN R200.

Please remember to upload the following documents (where applicable) :
** Certified copy of your ID/passport.
** Certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate or O/A Levels or relevant school leaving qualification/certificate.

** Proof from Universities South Africa (previously known as HESA), that you qualify for admission to degree studies at South Africa universities, if you are an international applicant. For more information, refer to the undergraduate prospectus

** Certified copies of your degree certificate(s), academic record and certificate of conduct, if you attended other universities.

** Proof of English proficiency for International applicants from non-English speaking countries.
** South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluations if the previous qualification(s) was/were obtained at foreign universities (outside South Africa).

** A research proposal/proposed title of the dissertation/thesis if you are applying for a Masters Degree or PhD.
** A valid study visa to study in SA if you are an International applicant.

Documentation Required For UKZN Application

** Grade 12 learners must submit certified copies of their Grade 11 results (plus any available Grade 12 results) and their ID documents with the applications.

** Applicant wishing to transfer from other Universities must submit certified copies of their National Senior Certificates/Senior certificates as well as complete academic transcripts from their previous/current Universities with their applications.

Transfers :
** If you want to transfer to UKZN for undergraduate studies from another institution Apply via CAO.
** Consult .cao.ac.za. Indicate proposed year of study on the form.
** Credits will be considered at/after registration.

International undergraduate applicants :
** Go to applications.ukzn.ac.za to download a UKZN Undergraduate Application form and for relevant information in the Undergraduate Prospectus.

All Postgraduate Applicants :
** Please download a UKZN Postgraduate Application form from appications.ukzn.ac.za
** On the same site consult the Postgraduate Application Guide for information qualifications offered and contact detail.

Applications by currently registered UKZN students :
** Visit applications.ukzn.ac.za to download the internal application forms for transfer to another qualification or for application to postgraduate study.
