Traffic Calming Request :

** Responsible for receiving and screening traffic calming requests (speed humps/circles/ round-abouts/ rumble strips etc.).

** Customer Care section arranges Traffic Engineering site inspections and general customer queries relating to Traffic Engineering.
** It plays an important role of liaising between internal departments and providing feedback to the client.

** Customer Care also handles high level ( “VIP” ) customers i.e. (Mayoral Office/City Manager/Section 80members/Councillors/ Regional Directors and Residence Associations).
** Providing updated information regarding Capital Programmes/ depot maintenance progammes.

** The CLO’s are available to set-up site inspections, assess proposals for project inceptions and attend Visible Service Delivery meeting as well as Integrated Development Programme meetings.

Application Procedures :
1. Speed humps must be warranted as per SARTSM and COJ Traffic Calming Policy – Requirement, Traffic Assessment/Study
2. Ward Councillors’ support & approval (approval letter)
3. Scaled A2 engineering design drawing depicting position of proposed traffic calming hump(s)
4. A letter of support from the City of Johannesburg’s Regional Directors Office.

5. A letter of support from the JHB Metropolitan Police Department, responsible for speed law enforcement. The above documents must to be submitted to the JHB Roads Agency – Traffic Engineering & Analysis department for assessment & approval. On receipt of approval from the above organization;

6. The applicant or appointed contractor must obtain a way leave from the JHB Roads Agency prior to starting any construction.

7. A suitably qualified contractor may be appointed to install the traffic calming humps. The appointment of a contractor is a matter between the applicant/ residences association and the contractor.

8. The speed hump(s) construction must comply with the JRA specifications (Specs to be provided by the JRA, on approval of application)
9. The contractor must comply with all JRA construction safety rules & regulations (Stipulations within way leave)

10. JRA engineer/ technician & or inspectors must have supervisory access to the site at all times.
11. The site should be formerly handed over to JRA on completion, whens forth a final inspection will be conducted before issuing a certificate of compliance.
